Big hopes can make us search for big shortcuts. We want closeness to Allah, Jannah, a changed heart, a stronger life of worship. Then ordinary acts begin to look too small for such enormous goals.
Rabi‘ah ibn Ka‘b served the Prophet and brought him water for wudu. When the Prophet told him to ask, Rabi‘ah did not ask for comfort or wealth. He asked for the Prophet’s companionship in Paradise. The response did not belittle the hope. He was told to help towards it through abundant prostration.
The destination was immense, but the instruction returned him to repeated worship: salah, sujood, turning to Allah again and again. That is a mercy for anyone who thinks spiritual growth must always arrive through a dramatic moment. Much of a faithful life is built through acts that look ordinary because they are repeated so often.
Keep your hopes high. Ask Allah for Jannah. Ask for nearness, forgiveness and a heart that remains steady. But let those hopes change your schedule. Protect the obligatory prayers. Add voluntary worship within your capacity. Make sujood a place where your private ambitions are brought before Allah rather than merely imagined.
You do not honour a high goal by only speaking about it beautifully. The believer keeps walking towards it. One sincere prayer will not feel like the whole journey, but journeys are made from steps that keep returning in the right direction.
A high hope for the Akhirah should eventually become a small act of worship you keep repeating.
Ask Allah for what is great, then let today’s sujood become part of the answer you are seeking.
