Some of the best days of your life will not feel special while you are living them.

That is part of what makes this dunya so painful. The moments you later ache for often arrive looking completely ordinary. A family dinner you almost skipped. A car ride you barely paid attention to. Your father sitting in his usual place. Your mother calling from the kitchen. A sibling annoying you. A house full of voices you assume will always be there.

Nothing dramatic happens. You call it a normal day.

Then life changes.

A chair becomes empty. A room becomes too quiet. A home becomes a memory. And suddenly you would give anything to step back into one of those unremarkable evenings you once rushed through. One day, you may realise that some of the days you complained about were the very days you would later cry to have back. Time reveals what hurry concealed.

So do not wait for loss to make you grateful.

Thank Allah while the blessing is still in front of you. Hold your people a little closer. Notice what is still here. Eat the meal without rushing. Sit in the room a little longer. Listen more carefully. Let yourself be present inside the mercy Allah has already placed around you. Not every gift arrives wrapped in excitement. Some come wrapped in familiarity. Presence is also gratitude when it is offered sincerely.

This life is full of blessings that do not announce themselves as blessings until they are gone.

May Allah give us hearts that recognise His gifts before they become memories and make us grateful for what is in front of us today. Ameen.
