Before Jumu'ah, Look at What Your Tongue Did This Week

BEFORE THE KHUTBAH

Some sins leave no visible mess behind. A private detail gets repeated. A joke makes somebody small. A group chat becomes cruel. Someone's mistake turns into entertainment. The words disappear quickly, but another person's dignity may carry them much longer.

Before Jumu'ah, look at the week without softening it.

Did you repeat something because it made the conversation interesting? Did you join mockery because everyone else was laughing? Did you describe somebody in a way you would hate to hear about yourself? Did you use religious language to correct someone while enjoying their humiliation?

Friday can interrupt the habit.

Before you listen to a khutbah about anybody else's character, bring your own speech before Allah. Make tawbah for what was wrong. Stop feeding the chat that keeps producing cruelty. Refuse to forward the screenshot. Protect the confidence that was not yours to retell. If repair is needed and you are unsure how to make amends without causing more harm, seek qualified religious guidance.

Protect the khutbah too. Let your tongue become quiet long enough for your heart to be addressed. Then notice the first conversation afterwards. A moving reminder has not yet changed you if gossip becomes entertaining again within minutes.

Protecting dignity does not mean hiding abuse, danger or wrongdoing that genuinely needs reporting. Tell necessary truth to the right people through the right channel.

Restraint is not silence at any cost; it is learning when speech serves truth and when it serves ego.

TAKEAWAY

A quieter tongue after Jumu'ah can be stronger evidence of reflection than sounding religious for an hour and returning to the same harm.

TODAY'S ACTION

Leave one harmful conversation today and refuse to repeat one private detail that is not yours to share.
