Amani’s Reminders poster about friendships fading after a community project ends, encouraging brotherhood and sisterhood to outlast the task.

The Project Ended. The People Should Not Become Strangers.

The Project Ended. The People Should Not Become Strangers.

For months you spoke almost every day. There were planning calls, late messages, shared documents, cups of tea after meetings and the strange closeness that grows when people are carrying the same responsibility.

Then the event finished. The campaign closed. The class ended. The group chat went quiet.

A few weeks later you see one another and realise the relationship had been held together almost entirely by the work.

There is nothing wrong with task-based teamwork. Not every person you serve beside will become a close friend. Brotherhood and sisterhood do not require forced intimacy. But a Muslim relationship should not become disposable simply because the spreadsheet is finished.

Keep something human after the handover.

Say salaam without rushing past. Ask about the person, not only the next project. Remember the difficulty they mentioned when you were both busy. If the work exposed a good quality in them, let your respect survive after you no longer need that quality for a task.

Community projects can accidentally train us to value people by function. Allah created a life around each person that is larger than what they contributed to our plan. Adab asks us to remember that.

And if the connection naturally becomes quieter, let it become quieter with warmth rather than awkwardness. You do not have to manufacture closeness. You can simply refuse to act as though the person became a stranger the moment the shared responsibility ended.

Sincerity can outlive the timetable that first brought your paths together.

The project had a finish date. Basic brotherhood does not need one.

LET THE TASK END WITHOUT MAKING THE PERSON DISAPPEAR.

Keep one small thread of human warmth after the work no longer gives you a reason to talk.
