When Temporary Living Stops Feeling Temporary

You packed for a short stay. Enough clothes for a week or two. The essentials. A little patience because the disruption had an end date.

Then the date moved.

Repairs were delayed. Paperwork stalled. Another update promised almost nothing. The room that was supposed to be temporary started holding school mornings, work calls, tired evenings and the prayer mat you keep folding back into a bag.

Sabr does not require you to pretend that this is easy.

Living between addresses can make the smallest things feel unsettled. Privacy changes. Sleep changes. Children ask when you are going home. You can feel guilty for struggling because at least you have somewhere to stay, then guilty again for not feeling grateful enough.

Allah is not asking you to erase the difficulty before you turn to Him.

Deal with what is practical. Ask for clear updates. Keep important communication. Seek appropriate housing, legal, medical or safeguarding help if conditions are unsafe or your rights may be affected. Patience does not mean normalising harm.

Where the space is safe but waiting lasts, build one small rhythm that belongs to you. Keep salah anchored. Give medicines and documents one place. Make a meal. Let the children mark a birthday. Stop postponing every ordinary comfort until the perfect date arrives.

You do not have to love the arrangement to create steadiness inside it.

A delayed move matters, but it does not deserve every minute of your life. Worship, rest, laughter and care are still allowed in a season that has not resolved yet.

Let today be lived, not merely survived until the address changes.
