WHEN YOU NOTICE YOUR PARENTS ARE GETTING OLDER

It can happen in one ordinary moment. A slower step. A repeated story. An appointment they would once have handled alone. Suddenly the people who felt permanent in childhood look more human, and love becomes mixed with a fear you do not know how to say aloud.

Do not let tomorrow's grief steal every gentle moment Allah is still giving you today. You cannot control every change that age may bring, but you can become more present, more patient, and more deliberate with the time that is here.

Ya AL-HAFEEDH, preserve my parents in their faith, dignity, bodies and minds. Protect them from harm, neglect and loneliness. Place trustworthy care around them wherever my own hands cannot reach.

Ya AR-RAHEEM, cover their later years with mercy. Reward sacrifices I never fully noticed. Forgive my impatience, distracted replies, postponed visits, and the times I assumed there would always be another chance.

Help me honour them through action, not only emotion. Put gentleness in my voice, wisdom in difficult decisions, and patience in the practical changes that may come. Let my dua for them continue in ease as sincerely as it does in fear.

And when anxiety starts rehearsing loss, return me to today's responsibility: call, listen, visit when possible, ask what they need, and be fully there.

If caring for them becomes demanding, help me seek wise support instead of carrying everything alone. Let service remain compassionate, sustainable, and free from the resentment that can grow when exhaustion is hidden.

You do not need a frightening day to become tender with the people you love.
