Amani’s Reminders artwork about growing up too early, carrying responsibility and rediscovering softness.
Healing after growing up too soon

Some children grew up so early that even their softness started to feel irresponsible.

For the child who learned responsibility before softness: growing up early can teach strength, but it should not sentence you to carrying everything alone.

Some children grew up so early that even their softness started to feel irresponsible.

They learned to be practical before they had time to be carefree. Useful before they had time to be held. Strong before anybody asked whether they were okay.

They noticed moods before words were spoken. Learned when to stay quiet, when to help, when not to add another problem to an already heavy room. While other children were allowed to simply need, they became dependable.

That kind of childhood can follow you into adulthood.

You become the one who notices everything, carries too much, stays mature and composed, and feels guilty for ever needing anything back.

Rest can feel lazy. Asking can feel selfish. Softness can feel unsafe. You may even apologise for having needs because somewhere along the way, being easy to care for felt like your responsibility.

Allah saw every burden you carried before your heart was ready.

He saw what you swallowed, what you handled quietly and every moment you tried to make life easier for everyone else while still learning how to be a child yourself.

Growing up early may have taught you strength, but strength does not mean you must live without tenderness forever.

You are allowed to receive care without earning it first. You are allowed to say you are tired. You are allowed to be supported, reassured and loved without proving that you can carry everything alone.

May Allah give rest to the heart that had to grow up too soon, heal the part of you that learned to survive before it learned to feel safe, surround you with people who make gentleness feel trustworthy, and return to you the softness that responsibility once pushed aside. Ameen.
