When the World's Pain Follows You Into Bed

You put the phone down, but the headlines stay in the room. Another tragedy, another frightening clip, another update you feel guilty for not opening. Your body is in bed while your mind is still scrolling through people suffering far away, as though staying awake might prove that your heart has not become indifferent.

Caring is not the problem. A Muslim heart should not need cruelty to become background noise. But compassion and constant exposure are not the same thing. You do not have to consume every image, every rumour and every update to prove that another person's pain matters to you before Allah.

Choose reliable sources. Decide when you will check them. Turn concern into something intentional where you can: make dua, give through trustworthy channels, learn carefully, advocate responsibly or help someone near you. Then stop reopening the same distress when there is no new action for you to take tonight.

Before sleep, make wudu if that is part of your routine, pray what you intend to pray, and let dhikr return your attention to Allah rather than the endless feed. The world does not become safer because you exhausted yourself refreshing it. Rest can preserve the clarity and steadiness you need to serve tomorrow.

If graphic material or anxiety is seriously affecting your sleep or daily functioning, seek appropriate professional support. Protecting your mind is not the same as closing your heart. Your compassion needs a rhythm it can survive. A heart that rests can still wake concerned, informed and ready to act for the sake of Allah.
