When Someone's Hurt Is Beginning to Change Your Heart

Resentment rarely arrives all at once. It grows through the conversations you keep having in your head, the apology you never received, the unfairness that still feels unfinished. You may not want revenge, yet you can feel the wound changing the way you speak, trust, and see people.

What happened matters. So does what happens to your heart next.

You do not need to call harm acceptable in order to release bitterness. You do not need to restore access in order to forgive. A boundary can remain. Distance can remain. Accountability can remain. The question is whether the injury must remain in charge of your inner life as well.

AS-SALAM, You are the Source of Peace. Bring peace into the part of me that keeps returning to this hurt. Give me justice without obsession, boundaries without cruelty, and distance without hatred. Protect me from rehearsing arguments that never happen and from secretly needing another person's suffering to prove that mine mattered.

If I need to speak, help me speak cleanly. If I need to step away, help me leave without using silence as revenge. Keep the lesson, but remove the poison. Let wisdom grow where resentment has been making me hard.

Do not let one person's wrong become the rule I use to judge everyone who comes after them. Give me softness without naivety, caution without suspicion, and dignity without pride.

Your healing does not become more sincere because you keep the wound open. Let Allah teach you what to remember and what to release.

Ameen.
