When the Call Ends and Home Feels Far Away

You can hang up from a beautiful call and still feel your chest tighten when the room goes quiet. For a few minutes, you heard the voices that know your history, the ordinary interruptions, the laughter from another room. Then the screen went dark, and distance became real again.

Missing home does not mean you are ungrateful for the life Allah has placed in front of you. Love can stretch across cities and countries and still ache. You are allowed to miss the cup of tea you did not have to schedule, the door you once walked through without planning, the people whose presence used to be ordinary.

Do not let homesickness turn your whole present life into a waiting room. Carry your family in dua. Ask about the small details. Share the boring parts of your own day. Arrange the next call before loneliness convinces you that everyone is too busy. Then turn towards where Allah has placed your feet now. Learn a neighbour's name. Return to the masjid. Accept one invitation. Let trustworthy people know the unpolished version of you.

Belonging is not betrayal. Building roots here does not weaken the roots there. Sometimes sabr looks like loving people across distance while slowly allowing a new place to become familiar enough to hold you too.

When the ache rises after a call, resist the urge to disappear into scrolling. Sit with it long enough to recognise what it is: love missing its usual closeness. Then choose one act of connection instead of one more hour of withdrawal.
