When Home Is Where You Feel Most on Edge

Some homes become quiet in a way that does not feel peaceful. You listen for footsteps, measure the mood before speaking, avoid certain rooms, or delay going downstairs because you do not know what version of the evening is waiting for you.

Home is meant to hold rest, but sometimes the people inside it are carrying so much hurt, pride, stress, grief, or resentment that everybody starts protecting themselves from one another.

Do not call heaviness peace just because nobody is shouting.

AS-SALAM, You are the Source of Peace. Bring sakinah into this home where tension has become familiar. Soften the words that come out sharp. Break the pride that makes apologies feel impossible. Protect us from silence used as punishment, from suspicion that invents motives, and from arguments that leave wounds long after the subject is forgotten.

Show each of us what belongs to us. Give us humility to admit where we have contributed to the atmosphere, courage to repair trust slowly, and wisdom to know when a conversation needs calm, mediation, counselling, boundaries, or outside support.

If this home is unsafe, guide us towards protection and responsible help. If it is wounded but repairable, teach us how to listen without preparing another defence.

Let salah, dhikr, mercy, and good character have a real place here, not only religious words spoken after damage is done.

Let kindness become practical again: a softer answer, one honest apology, a respected boundary, a meal shared without tension, a room where nobody has to perform.

Ameen.
