Amani’s Reminders poster about someone who stopped attending the community, warning against inventing motives and encouraging gentle outreach with adab.
BROTHERHOOD & SISTERHOOD

You Do Not Know Why They Stopped Coming. Do Not Write the Story for Them.

When someone stops coming, absence is not permission to invent a story about them. Choose adab, gentle contact and mercy over speculation.

You Do Not Know Why They Stopped Coming. Do Not Write the Story for Them.

They used to be at the class, the masjid, the sisters’ circle, the community dinner. Then their name slowly disappeared from the room.

People notice absence quickly. The danger is how quickly we also invent the reason.

“They think they are better than us.” “They were never committed.” “They have changed.” A few guesses repeated often enough can become a reputation somebody never had the chance to answer.

You may know far less than you think.

Illness can make leaving home difficult. Money can make every journey or gathering feel expensive. A family problem can swallow weeks. A painful interaction can make returning feel heavy. Faith itself can go through a fragile season. None of these possibilities gives you the right to diagnose their life from an empty chair.

Adab includes restraint in the stories we tell about people who are not there to correct us.

Mercy sometimes begins by refusing to turn silence into evidence against someone.

If you genuinely care, send a simple message without interrogation: “You crossed my mind. I hope you are okay.” Keep the door open without demanding an explanation. If they want to talk, listen. If they do not, let kindness remain kindness rather than turning into curiosity.

And if there is a real responsibility that needs addressing, deal with what you actually know, not the motives you imagined.

Allah knows what sits behind an absence. You do not.

A community becomes safer when people can step away for a season without returning to find a whole character judgement waiting for them.

AN EMPTY CHAIR IS NOT A COMPLETE STORY.

Reach out with care, not a verdict, and leave room for what you do not know.
