When Everyone Trusts You to Do the Work but Gets Uncomfortable When You Shape the Decision

You are trusted to organise the details, remember what everybody needs, prepare the documents, solve the problem, stay late and make the whole thing work. Then the moment you question a decision, suggest a different direction or ask for authority over the responsibility you carry, the atmosphere changes.

That can create a painful message: your effort is welcome, but your judgement is inconvenient.

A Muslim woman should not turn leadership into a measure of worth. But humility also does not mean accepting responsibility without the voice needed to carry it well.

If a role is yours, treat it as an amanah. Seek shura. Listen to people with more knowledge. Explain decisions honestly. At the same time, do not keep volunteering for work that leaves you accountable for outcomes while somebody else refuses to let you influence the choices behind them.

Sometimes the answer is a clearer conversation about roles. Sometimes it is asking for decision-making authority that matches the responsibility. Sometimes it is stepping back from a task that has quietly become resentment.

Your aim is not to prove that women should always lead. It is not to prove that service is beneath you. It is to stop confusing self-erasure with sincerity.

Allah sees the intention behind public and private work. Let that free you from chasing titles, but also from pretending that your judgement never matters.

Serve when service is right. Lead when leadership is genuinely entrusted. In both, keep adab, accountability and the heart turned towards Allah.
