WHEN EID BRINGS BACK THE VERSION OF YOU YOUR FAMILY STILL EXPECTS

You may have changed, but one family room can make you feel twelve years old again. The old nickname. The same comparison. A question about marriage, children, money or your body. A relative speaks to the person you used to be, and suddenly all the growth Allah has seen feels invisible.

Eid can hold joy and tension in the same room. You do not need to pretend an intrusive question is harmless just because everyone is celebrating. You also do not need to answer every provocation simply because you have the chance.

Sabr is not becoming available for humiliation. Adab is not agreeing to be spoken to without limits. Protect family ties without handing every relative access to private parts of your life.

Decide before you arrive what you will not discuss. Keep one calm sentence ready. Sit near someone who helps you stay grounded. Step away before anger turns your pain into words you will regret. If there is genuine abuse, coercion or danger, safety and appropriate support matter more than appearances.

And watch what you pass on. Do not ask another person the question you dread being asked. Do not use somebody else's sensitive subject to entertain the table.

One Eid gathering does not have to repair years of history. Let your goal be smaller and cleaner: worship Allah, protect your character, keep what is good, refuse what is harmful, and leave without creating a new wound.

YOU CAN HONOUR FAMILY WITHOUT BECOMING SMALLER INSIDE THE ROOM.

Before you go, choose one boundary and one person who helps you stay steady.
