Everyone in the Class Looks Younger Than Me

Ya Al-Haadi, do not let embarrassment keep me from guidance. Make me willing to learn what I need now, not punish myself for the years I did not know it. Let this class be an act of returning to You, not a trial of how late I arrived.

You choose a seat near the back. The people opening notebooks around you look younger. Some already know the words you are still learning. Before the teacher begins, one thought arrives: I should have known this years ago.

Age can carry experience, but it does not make every missing lesson a disgrace. Seeking knowledge for Allah is not a race where the youngest start first and the oldest must pretend they are finished. The question is simpler: what do I need to understand so that my worship, choices and character become more truthful?

Shame may try to make you invisible. You stop asking. You miss a class, then another. You tell yourself you can study alone once you feel less exposed. The quiet cost is that the image of being “old enough to know” becomes more important than actually knowing.

Perhaps nobody in the room is measuring your age. Their glance cannot decide whether you deserve to learn. Allah knows the need that brought you through the door. Let niyyah turn that ordinary seat into a sincere beginning.

Stay for the lesson. Write the basic question. Ask it with adab when there is an appropriate moment. Let qualified scholarship carry what is beyond your level.

You are not honouring knowledge by hiding your gap. You honour it by meeting the gap honestly.

Let the age difference become background. What matters now is whether today's learning makes your worship truthful, your questions more honest, and your heart more willing to be taught.
