Amani’s Reminders artwork about being the strong one, carrying too much and learning to receive care.
For the one who is always strong

The people who say, ‘I’m used to it,’ are often the ones carrying the most.

The person who always says they are fine may be carrying more than anyone realises. Strength does not mean having no needs, and receiving care does not make you weak.

The people who say, ‘I’m used to it,’ are often the ones carrying the most.

They are used to being the strong one. The calm one. The reliable one. The person who keeps answering, keeps giving, keeps showing up even when their own chest feels heavy.

They learned how to function while tired.

How to smile before anyone could ask questions.

How to say, “It is fine,” because explaining everything felt harder than simply carrying it.

After a while, people begin to believe them.

They stop asking if they are okay because competence can look like ease from the outside.

But just because someone carries it well does not mean it is light.

Some people have held themselves together for so long that even kindness can make them emotional. One gentle question can reach a place they have been protecting for months.

“Are you really okay?”

That can be difficult to answer when being needed has become part of how you understand your place in other people’s lives.

You may worry that if you stop, everything will fall apart.

That if you need support, you will become a burden.

That if you finally admit you are tired, people will see you differently.

But being dependable does not make you endlessly available.

Strength is not the absence of needs.

And Allah did not create your heart to be treated like a storage place for everybody else’s burdens.

Let people help you where they can. Say no before resentment teaches you to. Rest before exhaustion makes the decision for you. Speak honestly to people who have earned your trust.

May Allah send ease to every heart that has become tired of being strong, give you people who notice without needing you to collapse first, place comfort in the parts of your life that feel heavy, and remind you that receiving care does not make you weak. Ameen.
