When Ramadan Arrives Before Your Heart Feels Ready

Ramadan can arrive on time while your heart feels months behind. The year may have carried grief, illness, family strain, money worries, disappointment or a version of yourself you are still trying to understand. Suhoor comes, the fast begins, and you wonder why you do not feel the excitement you remember.

Do not make a particular feeling the entrance fee to worship.

You can begin tired. You can open the Qur'an with a distracted heart. You can stand for salah while carrying questions. You can miss someone at iftar and still thank Allah for reaching another Ramadan. A sacred month does not require a polished person before it can become meaningful.

Stop comparing this Ramadan with somebody else's capacity, or even with your strongest year. Your work, health, children, grief and responsibilities may be different now. Protect what you can sustain. Guard the obligatory prayers. Give the Qur'an a real place in the day. Make sincere dua. Watch your tongue when hunger makes patience thin. Give within your means. Return after the difficult hour instead of declaring the whole day lost.

At Maghrib, ask something gentler than, Was I perfect? Ask, Did I return to Allah today?

Some Ramadans begin with sweetness. Others begin with a tired heart choosing not to stay distant. Both can contain sincere worship. Let this month meet the life you actually have, then let its days teach you how to keep turning.

If grief follows you into Ramadan, let it come without deciding that your worship is broken. Tears and gratitude can share the same iftar table.
