You do not have to cry at the Ka'bah

You may have imagined your first sight of the Ka'bah for years. In your mind, you would stop, cry, feel everything at once, and know immediately that the moment had reached the deepest part of you.

Then you arrive tired. The crowd is moving. Your body is overwhelmed. You are trying not to lose the people with you. Maybe tears come. Maybe they do not. Maybe the moment is beautiful but quieter than you expected.

Do not turn that into a verdict on your iman.

Emotion is not a performance you owe a sacred place. You do not have to reproduce somebody else's reaction, photograph your face, search for the perfect caption or inspect yourself from the outside to decide whether you felt enough.

You came to worship Allah, not to prove that you produced the correct emotion.

Look. Breathe. Let the reality settle at its own pace. If gratitude comes quietly, it is still gratitude. If travel has left you numb, give your mind time to catch up with where your feet have arrived. If tears come later, let them come later.

Let salah, dhikr and dua be honest rather than theatrical. Put the phone away for a while. Allow one memory to remain unrecorded. Stop grading the Hajj or Umrah experience against somebody else's most emotional minute.

The danger of rehearsing a sacred moment for too long is that you can become busy checking whether reality matches the scene in your head.

LET THE MOMENT BE REAL.
