He Kept Falling Into the Same Sin. The Prophet Still Stopped Them Cursing Him

Repeated failure can tempt people to turn a sinner into a verdict. They stop saying, “He did something wrong,” and begin speaking as though the wrong has become his entire identity. Shame becomes entertainment. Disgust starts feeling righteous.

In an authentic hadith, a man was repeatedly brought for punishment because of drinking alcohol. When someone cursed him for how often he returned to the same offence, the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, stopped that curse and testified to the man’s love for Allah and His Messenger.

The sin was not excused. Accountability was not cancelled. But neither was the man reduced to his worst repeated weakness.

That distinction matters. You may need boundaries. You may need to name harm honestly. You may need to refuse enabling, seek qualified guidance, or protect people from someone’s behaviour. Yet none of that requires you to speak as though you know what remains alive between another servant and Allah.

Somebody can be struggling badly and still have love, faith, remorse, or goodness that you cannot see. A person’s repeated fall does not give you permission to close the door of Allah’s mercy with your tongue.

And if you are the person who keeps falling, do not use this hadith to make peace with sin. Use it to remember that shame is not a substitute for tawbah. Return again. Take responsibility again. Seek help again.

There is a difference between refusing to normalise a sin and enjoying someone’s humiliation. Prophetic mercy does not make wrongdoing smaller. It stops accountability from becoming cruelty, hopelessness or self righteous contempt.
