Your Mother Is Ageing Too. Do Not Make Your Sister Carry It Alone

Sometimes family care quietly becomes “women’s work” without anyone ever saying those words. Your sister remembers the appointment. Your wife makes the call. An aunt notices the change. Someone else keeps track of medicine, meals, loneliness, paperwork and the thousand small signs that your parents are getting older.

You may love your mother deeply and still be absent from the work of caring for her.

Care means learning what you left vague. Know the appointments. Understand which sibling is exhausted. Ask what your father is struggling to manage. Follow up. Presence becomes trustworthy when it turns into dependable action.

Money matters. Providing can matter. But care is not only financial. Honouring parents can look like sitting long enough to notice what they are not saying, learning the practical details, making the difficult phone call, taking a turn, and refusing to let one woman become the family’s unpaid memory.

Allah sees the parts of family responsibility that never become impressive stories. Let birr reach beyond affectionate words and occasional gestures. Ask what would genuinely lighten the load, then do some of it consistently.

This is not an accusation against every son or a competition between siblings. Families have different capacities, distances and circumstances. The point is simpler: do not assume someone else will carry the intimate work because she is a woman.

One day you may miss the ordinary chances you had to show up. Do not wait for a crisis to become attentive.

Be the son who knows, asks, notices and helps. Let your care have details.
