LET ONE HONEST CHANGE SURVIVE THE DRIVE HOME

The drive home after a janazah can feel strangely ordinary. You have just stood near a grave, felt how brief this life is, and watched people you love wipe tears from their faces. Then traffic moves, shops stay open, phones buzz, and the world continues.

The danger is not that the reminder was too strong. It is that it becomes only a feeling.

Do not demand that one funeral redesign your whole life tonight. Ask instead: what did my heart recognise that I keep postponing?

Maybe it is a salah I keep making negotiable. A right I owe somebody. An apology I keep delaying. A habit that is hardening me. A good deed I keep saving for the version of myself who is supposedly more ready.

Ya AT-TAWWAB, let this awareness become sincere return, not temporary fear. Give me tawbah that reaches my choices after the emotion settles.

Ya AR-RAHEEM, place mercy upon the person who has died and gentleness upon the family carrying their absence. Give them sabr through the days when everyone else returns to ordinary life.

Remembering the akhirah should not make you abandon the responsibilities of this dunya. Let it make you more truthful, more present, more careful with people's rights, and less willing to waste the time still in your hands.

Let mortality soften the way you speak to people while you still can. Let it make grudges smaller and gratitude more immediate from this day.

You do not need ten dramatic promises. Choose one honest change small enough to practise and serious enough to matter.

Ameen.
