When Anxiety Starts Deciding Where You Go

At first it is one place you avoid because it feels difficult. Then another. You change the route, decline the invitation, choose the seat nearest the exit, leave early, stay close to home and organise more of life around one question: what if I cannot cope?

Avoidance can bring quick relief. That is why it becomes persuasive.

Then one day you realise your world has become smaller while your longing to live fully is still the same size.

Do not shame yourself for this. Anxiety is not cured by insults, and struggling with it is not proof that Allah is disappointed with your faith.

But notice the cost with compassion. Which relationships, responsibilities, acts of worship, journeys or ordinary pleasures are now being surrendered to fear? Which places disappeared from your week?

If anxiety is significantly restricting daily life, speak to a GP or qualified mental health professional. Appropriate support can help you understand the pattern and make a gradual, safe plan suited to your circumstances. You do not need to throw yourself into the hardest situation to prove courage.

Tawakkul does not require reckless self-testing. It also does not mean waiting until your body feels perfectly calm. You can seek treatment, take sensible precautions, make dua and still move carefully towards what matters.

Choose one appropriate next step. Small enough to repeat. Meaningful enough to reclaim a piece of life.

Progress may look ordinary from the outside. Attending the appointment. Travelling one stop. Staying a little longer. Returning to one place you miss.

Measure progress by returning to life, not by performing calm.
